Twenty + years ago, I started my journey into adult education. My Spanish teacher asked me if I had ever learned about English as a Second Language instruction, and to join her newly developed course--I loved it! I decided to study Adult Learning with English Language Learners and worked overseas. When I returned to the US, I found employment in an Adult Education and Workplace Readiness program. I gained many skills through the various roles I held over the years. I successfully designed and developed ILT and VILT adult education opportunities for over 1000+ learners. I learned to use data driven evidence for improving program and employee annual performance. I collaborated with over 100+ stakeholders and SMEs. I am motivated by the success in the learners’ lives that I have helped by designing and adapting authentic learning to meet the learners’ goals. I invest in my own learning and leadership because I think it is important to best understand how people learn, and the barriers and productive learning models used to initiate successful knowledge transfer.
Joining AIDA, and training in instructional design was one of my personal learning goals. I want to continue designing and developing quality experiences for learners. It is rewarding for me apply my knowledge of adult learning theory to practice, and then connect it to instructional design principles. I learned ID specific tools and methods such as creating design documents and storyboards, analyzing data for ID projects, and various programs design tools. I have a passion for creating learning experiences that are interactive, meaningful, and engaging, and plan to continue learning new skills and tools to create better learning experiences.
